AI Credits

AI Credits power the AI features in Bold BI, including the AI Assistant, dashboard summarization, and the Q&A widget. This page explains how credits work, how to purchase them, and how to monitor usage.

Overview

Every AI action in Bold BI — such as generating a summary, asking a natural language question, or using the AI Assistant — consumes credits from the license wallet. Credits are managed at the license level, and only the license owner (admin) can view the balance or make purchases.


Key concepts

  • Credits: The unit of AI consumption. Each AI action (for example: generating a summary, answering a Q&A query, or running the AI Assistant) deducts a set number of credits from the license wallet.
  • License balance: Credits are allocated and tracked per Bold BI license. Balances are non-transferable and isolated to each license.
  • Admin access: Only the license owner (admin) can view the credit balance, purchase credits, and access purchase history. Regular users cannot view or manage credits.
  • Consumption varies: The number of credits consumed depends on the feature and input size (e.g., simple prompts use fewer credits than large summarizations).
  • Credit Management Admins manage credits and subscriptions from Site Settings → AI and Settings → Billing & Subscription.

Free monthly credits

Every active Bold BI license automatically receives 500 free credits per month. These credits are added to the license wallet at the start of each billing period and are available for immediate use.

NOTE: Activating a paid credits subscription replaces the free monthly 500 credits for that billing period.


Purchasing Credits

Admins can purchase additional credits through the Bold BI site settings. Two options are available: subscription plans (monthly, recurring) and add-on credits (one-time purchases on top of an active subscription).

Subscription Plans

Subscription plans provide a fixed number of credits each month at a recurring cost. The available plans are:

NOTE: Subscriptions are billed automatically each period (auto-pay) to the credit card associated with the Bold BI account. To cancel a subscription or stop future charges, contact Bold BI Support. The license reverts to the free plan at the end of the current billing cycle.

Add-On Credits

If a license exhausts its monthly credits before the billing period ends, admins can purchase add-on credits in custom amounts without changing the subscription plan.

Key details for add-on credits:

  • Pricing: 100 credits are provided for $1. For example, a $5 purchase adds 500 credits and a $10 purchase adds 1,000 credits.
  • No expiry: Add-on credits do not expire. Unlike monthly subscription credits, unused add-on credits carry over indefinitely until consumed.
  • Availability: Add-on credit purchases are available only to customers with an active paid subscription.

How to Purchase Credits

To purchase a subscription plan or add-on credits:

  1. Sign in to Bold BI as an admin.
  2. Open Site Settings and navigate to the AI section.
  3. Click Buy Now. This opens the external purchase portal.

  1. Sign in to the purchase portal using the same account used for Bold BI. The AI usage dashboard and purchase options are displayed after login.
  2. In the portal, open SettingsBilling & Subscription to view plans and complete the purchase.

IMPORTANT: The purchase portal is an external service. Ensure you sign in with the same account credentials used for your Bold BI license so that credits are applied to the correct license.

Payment processing and status

After initiating a purchase, the transaction moves through the following states:

Status Description
Initiated The admin clicks Pay Now and is redirected to the purchase portal to submit payment details.
Pending The payment has been submitted and is being processed by the payment gateway. This may take a few moments.
Success Payment was successful. Credits are added to the license wallet and are available immediately (allow a few minutes for processing; refresh the dashboard if needed).
Failure Payment was not completed. The portal provides a link or instructions to retry the payment.

Below are the portal screens you may see during the process:

NOTE: If a payment fails and no retry link is provided, contact Bold BI Support with your purchase details and license ID.

Add-on credits

If a license exhausts its credits, admins can purchase add-on credits (custom amounts, e.g., $5, $10) without changing the subscription plan. Add-on purchases are available only to active subscription customers.

Viewing credit usage

The AI Usage Dashboard in the purchase portal shows a detailed breakdown of credit consumption for the selected license. The dashboard is displayed automatically after signing in to the purchase portal — no additional navigation is required.

The dashboard includes:

  • Filters by user, site, and date range
  • Total credits consumed over the selected period
  • Top 5 users by credit consumption
  • Per-user usage details

To switch between licenses, click the profile icon in the top-right corner of the portal, open the profile box, and select the desired license from the dropdown. The dashboard updates automatically to reflect the selected license.

Limitations

  • Credits are tied to a specific Bold BI license and cannot be transferred to another license.
  • Only the license owner (admin) can view the credit balance or make purchases.
  • Add-on credits require an active paid subscription.
  • Subscription and add-on purchases require a valid credit card associated with the Bold BI account.

Troubleshooting

Credits not reflecting after a successful purchase

Allow a few minutes for payment processing to complete, then refresh the AI Usage Dashboard. If the balance is still incorrect after refreshing, contact Bold BI Support with your purchase receipt and license ID.

Credits exhausted — AI features unavailable

If AI features are unavailable due to exhausted credits, the admin can purchase add-on credits or upgrade to a higher subscription plan through Site Settings → AI → Buy Now. Regular users without purchase permissions should contact their administrator.
