Map
The Map visual displays geographic data as colored regions or location markers, helping viewers compare values by place.

Configuring Data

Assigning Data
- Add the Map to the design canvas and open ASSIGN DATA.
- For a shape layer, add fields to Location Value and Location Name.
- For coordinate markers, add fields to Marker Latitude and Marker Longitude.
- Optionally configure tooltip, marker, hidden-column, and filter fields.
Field Settings
Use a field’s settings menu to configure its supported rename, aggregation, filtering, relative-date, and formatting options. See Configuring Data.
Drill Down
Widgets that support hierarchies enable drill-down when multiple dimension fields are assigned to the hierarchy data section. Select a data point to move to the next level, and use the widget breadcrumb to return to a previous level.
Formatting the Map
General
Map Type
Selects how the assigned geographic data is displayed. Choose Choropleth to color regions, Bubble to place value-sized bubbles, or Route to draw paths between locations. An option is available only when its required data fields are assigned.
Enable Zooming
Allows viewers to zoom and pan the map.
Geography
Shape Type
Selects the geographic level used to match the Location Name field. The available levels are Continent And Region, Country, and State.
Shape Data
Selects the boundary data for the chosen shape type. Its options change according to Shape Type.
Labels
Show Labels
Displays a label for each mapped region or marker. In a Route map, this property appears as Show Route Labels.
Map Value Type
Selects whether labels show the Location Value or Location Name.
Color
Sets the label text color.
Colors
Color
Sets the base color of map regions when a Choropleth layer is configured. This property is not shown for a Route map.
Formatting
Formatting
Selects Monochromatic or Advanced color formatting. Monochromatic formatting uses shades of one color; Advanced formatting applies value-based colors and rules through Customize. Refer to Conditional Formatting for the available advanced formatting modes.
Legend Settings
Show Legend
Displays the map legend.
Show Legend Title
Displays a heading above the legend.
Legend Type
Selects whether the legend describes Layers or Markers. The available option depends on the configured map data.
Legend Title
Specifies the legend heading and is available when Show Legend Title is enabled.
Legend Position
Places the legend at the Top, Bottom, Left, or Right of the map.

Refer to Font Settings for map font properties.
Layers
Enable Secondary Layer
Overlays another geographic boundary layer on the map.
Secondary Shape Type
Selects the secondary geographic level: Continent And Region, Country, or State.
Secondary Shape Data
Selects the boundary data for the secondary shape type.
Secondary Fill Color
Sets the secondary-layer color.
Secondary Opacity
Controls the transparency of the secondary layer from 0 (transparent) to 1 (opaque).
Markers
Marker Shape
Selects Balloon, Circle, Diamond, Rectangle, Triangle, Star, Cross, or Image.
Image Source
Selects Local, URL, or Parameterized URL when Marker Shape is set to Image.
Browse Image
Selects a local marker image. Image URL loads an image from a web address, while Pattern builds the image URL using dashboard parameters.
Marker Color
Sets the marker color for non-image shapes.
Marker Width
And Marker Height set the marker dimensions from 1 through 1500 pixels.
Zoom To Markers
Automatically adjusts the initial map view to include the configured markers.
Marker Customization
Opens advanced marker settings when the current data configuration supports customization.
Routes
Route Line Width
Sets the route thickness from 1 through 12 pixels.
Route Color
Sets the route line color.
Show Route Arrow
Displays arrows that indicate the direction of a route.
Route Curvature
Controls how strongly a route bends, from 0 for a straight line to 1 for maximum curvature.
Density
Dense Point Mode
Determines how closely positioned markers are rendered: Exact, Cluster, or Aggregate.
Density Radius
Sets the area used to group nearby locations, from 5 through 100. It is available for Cluster and Aggregate modes.
Cluster Threshold
Sets the minimum number of nearby points required to form a group, from 2 through 500. It is available for Cluster and Aggregate modes.
Interaction
Enable Multi Selection
Allows viewers to select multiple map regions. It is available for supported Choropleth configurations when the map acts as a master widget.
Tooltip Settings
Show Tooltip
Displays information when a viewer points to a region, marker, or route.
Customize Tooltip
Opens the tooltip editor, where you can arrange the assigned tooltip fields and customize their display.
Enable RTL
Displays tooltip content from right to left.
Filter
